The Monarch Butterfly Garden

An Education Garden – 2025 Special Project

In 2025, a United Way grant supported the creation of a Life Skills Butterfly Garden at Waxahachie High School. Approximately 125 students and teachers helped build and plant the garden with native Texas plants selected to support monarch butterflies and their migration. The students proudly named their new Monarch Waystation “Monarch Way.”

Designed to meet the requirements of a nationally recognized Monarch Waystation, the garden supports the conservation goals of the Monarch Joint Venture. Students researched proper plant care and participated in building, planting, and maintaining this important pollinator habitat.

Monarch Way now serves as an outdoor classroom where students gain hands-on experience, strengthen their confidence and life skills, and develop a lasting appreciation for nature and conservation.
